Algorithms in the Wild

Eli Bressert
- San Francisco, CA

In the coming few months the Algorithms group will be giving talks at multiple venues. This week, 3/14 - 3/18, there will be four events taking place across the US. Below is a summary of the events and what to watch out for.

San Francisco

At Stitch Fix headquarters in San Francisco on Monday (3/14), there’s the Bay Area Women in Machine Learning & Data Science meetup where five of our team members will be talking. More details below:

  • Tara Lydiard-Martin & Alex Smolyanskaya: The use of Markov chain simulations & Bayesian regression to forecast demand within an unusual business model

  • Tatsiana Maskalevich & Jasmine Nettiksimmons: Naive vs controlled approaches to measuring stylist performance

  • Katherine Livins: The role of human computation in our styling process.

The meet up is public and you need to register to attend.

New York

Eric Colson will be talking at Insight Data Science and Data Driven, both in NYC on Wednesday (3/16). Eric will talking about the art & science of data at Stitch Fix where we utilize both the machine and people to drive our business model. The Data Driven event is public and you need to register to attend.

Austin

At SXSW, Eli Bressert will be on a panel talking about data visualization with two other panelists: Gaia Scagnetti and Keelan Downton. The discussion will focus on what visualizations are already solved, which are hard, and which are (theoretically) impossible.

If you can make it to any of the publicly accessible meetings, please come join! We’d love to talk and share more about what we’re up to at Stitch Fix and all things data related.

Up & Coming

Our talks don’t just stop there - there’s a lot coming up in the comings months. Below is a sample from the growing list of events for 2016. Hope to see you there!
