Product Understanding in Online Retail

Talk Abstract:

Organizing products using structured metadata is crucial in online retail. The metadata is needed to make many downstream applications including search and discovery, trust and safety, analytics and reporting among others. We will look at how we solve this problem using NLP and Computer vision to categorize products into a hierarchical tree taxonomy at scale.

Speaker Info:

Kshetrajna currently works as a Staff Data Scientist within the Commerce Algorithms team at Shopify. His team is currently working on building out a Product Understanding Engine using NLP and Computer Vision models to extract attributes and metadata from unstructured product data at scale to help drive Shopify’s mission of making commerce better for everyone. Prior to joining Shopify , Kshetrajna has close to a decade of experience in building out different ML Products to help in solving complex problems in Online Retail, Advertising and Data Science domains. One of his primary focus areas is to build scalable models as well as platforms in the ML space. Kshetrajna got a degree in Applied Mathematics and Operations Research at Florida Institute of Technology and he continues to maintain a keen interest in the intersection of business and academia.
