Multithreaded in the Wild

Sonya Berg, Diana Tkachenko, and Jay Martin
- San Francisco, CA

As always, members of our algorithms and engineering teams are out and about this month!

Stitch Fix HQ

Kristian Lum will be presenting on October as part of our Multithreaded Speaker Series! Kristian works with the Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG). Some of her work on predictive policing systems is showcased in this month’s Significance Magazine. Register here!

Bay Area, CA

Sonya Berg gave an outreach presentation to students in the STEM scholarship program at Solano College in Fairfield on October 6th. With data science as a relatively new field, she hopes to have helped students learn about careers outside of the traditional STEM fields.

Diana Tkachenko from our data platform team (who recently wrote up about immutable server pattern deployment here at Stitch Fix) will be speaking at the Advanced Amazon Web Services meetup on October 11. She will be discussing using Spinnaker to help accomplish the goal of self-managed applications on the data science team. Register here!

Austin, TX

We’re proud to be sponsoring the Fourth AAAI Conference on Human Computation and Crowdsourcing (HCOMP 2016). Jay Martin – the data science manager of our human computation team – will be at the conference and very happy to connect!

Houston, TX

We are excited that our engineering partners are very involved with the Grace Hopper Conference!

Two of our engineers – Rachel Bobbins and Amber Crawford – will be at the Student Opportunity Lab on October 21. Rachel will be speaking on techniques in interviews for figuring out if you are a good fit with the company, and Amber will be speaking on mentorship. We hope you are able to stop by and have a great conversation!

Additionally, Stitch Fix is sponsoring an iOS meetup, which you can register for here!
